Louie Flores – Top Latinos

Phoenix, AZ /LWW/ Mr. Louie Flores, Sr. Utility Specialist with Arizona State University, University Staff Council Member, and Award Winning Author, has been recognized by the Top Latinos in the 2026 edition.

Louie Flores ASU - Arizona State University

For over 32 years, Louie Flores has been a cornerstone of Arizona State University, serving as a Sr. Utility Specialist. In his role, Louie ensures that every utility entering the university is maintained and cared for with precision and dedication. As the next level of maintenance expertise, he is the go-to professional for keeping the university running smoothly. His commitment to excellence extends beyond his job title, as he has also been a member of the University Staff Council for a decade and served two years with the Chicano/Latino Faculty and Staff Association (CLFSA).

Louie’s journey is as inspiring as it is multifaceted. Before joining ASU, he was a Federal Government Firefighter and Hot Shot Squad Leader, a role that demanded courage, leadership, and resilience. These qualities have carried over into his work at the university and his involvement in the community.

A proud Latino graduate delegate, Louie is driven by a burning fire to succeed—a relentless drive to prove that anyone, regardless of background, can achieve greatness. He is particularly motivated to challenge stereotypes about the Latino community, striving to set an example of excellence and perseverance.

Louie’s pride extends beyond his professional achievements. He is an artist, a published author, and an illustrator who uses his talents to spread messages of hope and kindness. During the 2020 pandemic lockdown, Louie began creating chalk art to uplift the spirits of his coworkers and the community. His art became a beacon of hope, from driveway drawings inspired by neighborhood teddy bear displays to a breathtaking 10-foot angel in a hospital parking lot. That angel, drawn for the nurses, doctors, and staff, brought tears, smiles, and heart-shaped gestures from those who saw it. It was in that moment Louie realized the profound demand for hope in the world—a realization that inspired his book, Big Love.

Big Love, available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, is a heartwarming tale about the power of small acts of kindness and their ability to make a big difference. Illustrated by Louie himself, the book was born from his experiences during the pandemic and the loss of his best friend, Packy the Dog, in 2020. Louie’s mission with Big Love is to combat the despair and hate that emerged during the pandemic with messages of hope and love.

Louie’s contributions to the community extend far beyond his art and writing. He is deeply proud of his involvement with the university and the broader community, always finding ways to give back and inspire others. Whether through his work, his art, or his writing, Louie Flores is a shining example of resilience, creativity, and the power of hope.
