A man of many talents, Paul is not only a celebrated musician but also a distinguished public servant, a dedicated family man, and a champion for his community.
Paul Perez’s love affair with music began at the tender age of three. With a natural gift for rhythm and melody, he quickly became a prodigy, mastering the trombone and percussion. Over the years, his talent and charisma earned him the moniker “El Alcalde De La Salsa” (The Mayor of Salsa), a title that reflects his commanding presence in the Latin music world.
As the owner of PZ Music & Entertainment, Paul has built a legacy of electrifying performances and soulful compositions. Operating out of Mississippi, he has become a beacon of Latin music in the region, bringing the vibrant sounds of salsa to audiences far and wide. His performances are not just concerts—they are celebrations of culture, passion, and the universal language of music.
While Paul’s music career is remarkable, his contributions to public service are equally inspiring. A retired United States Army veteran with 20 years of service, Paul is a proud product of the Trenton Public Schools System. He served in Operation Just Cause and Operations Desert Shield/Storm, demonstrating courage and dedication to his country.
After retiring from the military, Paul transitioned into a distinguished career in federal government. His roles included serving as the Division Director of Administrative Services at the National Science Foundation (NSF), where he earned the Director’s Award for Collaborative Integration and the Director’s Commendation for Dedicated Service – Visionary Leadership. His leadership extended to positions at the Department of Homeland Security, the National Institutes of Health, the Export-Import Bank of the United States, and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
Paul’s academic achievements are equally impressive. He holds a B.A. from Excelsior College and has completed prestigious programs at American University and the Harvard Kennedy School. These accomplishments reflect his commitment to lifelong learning and excellence.
Paul’s dedication to his community is unwavering. As the President of the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey, he has been a tireless advocate for civil rights, public policy, and social justice. His leadership has empowered countless individuals and strengthened the voice of the Latino community across the state.
In addition to his work with the Alliance, Paul is deeply involved in non-profits and advocacy groups, including the Special Parents Advocacy Group and served as the President of Partnerships for Trenton a community based 501 (3) (c). Currently, Paul is working at the Mississippi Youth Challenge Academy as an Assistant Platoon Leader helping to shape Americas future leaders. His efforts have made and continue to make tangible difference in the lives of families and individuals, particularly those in underserved communities.
At the heart of Paul’s journey is his family. He is a devoted husband to his wife, Janet, for over 44 years, and a proud father to his two sons, Paul Jr. and Steven. His five grandchildren are the light of his life, and he cherishes every moment spent with them. For Paul, family is the foundation of everything he does, and their love and support fuel his many endeavors.
