Rubén Estrada: A Visionary Leader Empowering Puerto Rico’s Future

Rubén Estrada, a man of boundless energy and unwavering commitment, has dedicated his life to uplifting communities and creating opportunities for those in need. As the Founder and Chairman of Helping Hands for Puerto Rico, Estrada has become a beacon of hope for the island and its people, especially in the wake of the devastating hurricanes Irma and Maria. His journey from the vibrant streets of Spanish Harlem to becoming a transformative leader in business, government relations, and community advocacy is nothing short of inspiring.
Born and raised in El Barrio, New York, Estrada’s roots are deeply intertwined with the Hispanic and Latino communities he has tirelessly served for over 45 years. His career spans an impressive array of fields, including public affairs, marketing, broadcasting, and government relations. Yet, it is his passion for empowering others that truly defines his legacy.
Helping Hands for Puerto Rico, the non-profit organization Estrada leads, was born out of a collective desire to rebuild and strengthen Puerto Rico after the hurricanes left the island in ruins. Comprised of elected officials, faith leaders, members of the judiciary, and healthcare and military professionals from Orange County, New York, the organization is a testament to the power of collaboration. Together, they have worked to ensure that Puerto Rico’s youth are equipped with the education and resources needed to create a brighter future on the island.
Estrada’s vision extends beyond immediate relief efforts. He is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of leaders who will drive Puerto Rico’s economic prosperity. By building bridges between leaders in the continental United States and Puerto Rico, he has created opportunities for education, entrepreneurship, and cultural development. His work has not only provided tangible support but has also inspired hope and resilience in communities that have faced immense challenges.
Throughout his career, Estrada has been recognized for his groundbreaking contributions to minority communities. His efforts have led to the establishment of the New York State Office of Minority Health and the Puerto Rican Hispanic Business Development Center within the NYS Urban Development Corporation. These initiatives have addressed social and economic barriers, paving the way for greater equity and opportunity.
Estrada’s influence extends to the airwaves as well. As the creator and host of “Linea Informativa,” a bilingual radio program serving the Hudson Valley, he has provided a platform for important conversations and community engagement. His leadership in organizing the Hudson Valley Fiesta Latina, an annual celebration of Hispanic and Latino culture now in its 10th year, has brought thousands together to honor their heritage and foster unity.
He is also the Founder and Chairman of the Hudson Valley Fiesta Latina, now in its tenth year, an annual event, held to celebrate Hispanic/Latino culture, drawing thousands of attendees annually from throughout the Tri-State area and beyond. Mr. Estrada serves as the Chairman of Helping Hands for Puerto Rico, a non-partisan 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which supports the development of the arts, entrepreneurship, and education in Puerto Rico and mainland communities. Helping Hands for Puerto Rico has embarked on a major initiative to develop a cultural center paired with 75 units of Senior/Veteran Housing to be located in the Hudson Valley, NY. Additionally, Estrada serves as Chairman of the American Latino Cultural Center NY, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
What sets Estrada apart is his ability to build diverse coalitions and implement strategies that drive meaningful change. His expertise in minority marketplace development and public affairs has not only generated millions in revenue but has also transformed communities across the nation. His work is a testament to the power of vision, collaboration, and unwavering dedication.
As Chairman of Helping Hands for Puerto Rico, Estrada continues to champion the arts, education, and entrepreneurship. His efforts remind us that true leadership is about lifting others and creating pathways for success.
