Veronica Salazar & La Mision in Saginaw, MI – Top Latino
Saginaw, MI /LWW/ Veronica Salazar Vela, Co-Founder of La Mision in Saginaw, Michigan, has been recognized by the Top Latinos in the 2026 edition.

Founded in 2024 by Veronica Salazar Vela and Rudy Vela, La Misión (“The Mission” in Spanish) serves the Saginaw community and surrounding neighboring communities. Veronica Salazar is a catalyst for change in Saginaw, Michigan. As the founder of La Mision, she has dedicated herself to brightening her community and demonstrating that persistence can truly transform lives. Now in its second year, La Mision has evolved from a hopeful idea into a vital lifeline for hundreds of families, fueled by Veronica’s unwavering belief in the power of positivity and community support.
La Mision originated from Veronica’s vision to build a trusted and transparent organization where the Hispanic community is recognized for its strength, resilience, and positive contributions. Although the organization is rooted in Latino culture, Veronica and her team extend their help to everyone in need. In fact, within the first week of operation, Veronica found herself guiding three Latino mothers, providing not just resources but also advice and comfort as a mother figure. Each day brings new stories, often from women escaping abusive relationships who urgently need support. Veronica and her team are there to donate clothing, locate safe housing, and help these women furnish a new start.
In just one year, La Mision has made a remarkable impact—supporting 575 people through clothing drives and food giveaways, hosting unique fundraisers such as celebrations for women who never had the chance to experience a Quinceañera, and partnering with the Mexican American Council to use their space for community events. Veronica is quick to acknowledge that this rapid progress is not the result of her efforts alone. The dedication of La Mision’s board members and team is the backbone of the organization’s success. Together, they set ambitious goals and tackle them as a unified group.
Veronica’s typical day is filled with deliveries, lunch meetings, and careful planning, all with the aim of strengthening the Hispanic community and bridging cultural divides by offering much-needed resources and opportunities for growth. As La Mision continues growing in its second year, the organization remains focused on giving hope to the community and working collectively to make an even greater difference. Through her passion and relentless advocacy—whether it’s organizing food drives or clothing donations—Veronica Salazar is building a legacy where every person has the support needed to thrive.
