Victoria J. Smith – Top Latino
Jacksonville, FL /LWW/ Victoria J. Smith, Advocate & U.S. Army Veteran, has been recognized by the Top Latinos in the 2026 edition.

Victoria J. Smith embodies the rich tapestry of what it means to be American. A proud Latina with a deep-rooted Native American heritage, she has dedicated her life to serving others, advocating for justice, and embracing the multicultural identity that defines her. Her journey is one of resilience, self-discovery, and unwavering commitment to her community.
Born into a family with a long bloodline of Native American and Latino ancestry, Victoria grew up with a deep respect for her heritage. Her father, a Native veteran, instilled in her a sense of pride and duty that would shape her path in life. However, it wasn’t until later in her journey that she truly discovered who she was culturally—a realization that has become a cornerstone of her identity today.
Victoria’s professional journey is as diverse as her heritage. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and began her career in social services, where she worked tirelessly to support individuals and families in need. She worked with the City of Jacksonville as a Social Service Specialist and later with the Jacksonville Children’s Commission, helping impoverished families access childcare. Her passion for helping others extended beyond her professional roles, as she also coached Pop Warner Cheerleading, leading fundraising efforts that culminated in her team placing second in the nation in 2009.
Her dedication to service led her to join the U.S. Army during the Persian Gulf War era. While serving in the Field Artillery, she played a critical role in supporting the families of deployed soldiers. She assisted wives and children during deployments and volunteered at events, providing much-needed care and support to military families. Her efforts earned her the prestigious Molly Pitcher Award during the presidency of George W. Bush, a testament to her selflessness and dedication.
Her time in the Army also highlighted her compassion for those struggling to make ends meet. She worked to support soldiers who couldn’t afford childcare, ensuring their families were cared for while they served their country. These experiences, though challenging, became some of the most defining moments of her life. She is most proud of being a Latina soldier during this time, standing as a symbol of strength and perseverance.
After her military service, Victoria continued to serve her community in various capacities, including working for the Department of Defense as a medical assistant. Today, she is a fierce advocate for Latinos, helping them navigate the complexities of immigration paperwork, legal challenges, and court proceedings. Her work is deeply personal, driven by her own experiences and her desire to uplift others.
Victoria’s personal life has been marked by both triumphs and trials. She was married for 20 years and is the proud mother of multicultural children and grandchildren. Despite enduring domestic violence and ultimately divorcing, she has remained steadfast in her positivity and determination. Now a single parent, she channels her strength into being a role model for her family and a voice for those who need it most.
Through it all, Victoria has discovered the power of knowing who she is. She is a multicultural woman, a Latina soldier, a Native American advocate, and a proud American. Her story is one of courage, compassion, and an unyielding belief in the power of community. Victoria J. Smith is not just a reflection of her heritage—she is a reflection of the American spirit.
